August 2021 Newsletter

Our new publishing date for the Newsletter

Our new publishing date for the NewsletterIf you are accustomed to receiving and reading the newsletter via the internet, you probably noticed that we did not send it out before our August meeting. We are attempting to make the newsletter more informative and pertinent to the workings of our post and useful to you as our members. You can expect a brief reminder of the upcoming meeting with a brief agenda of the planned events to be “pushed” through our website to each subscriber. Then, after the meeting, we will summarize the meeting and post any additional information that pertains to the day-to-day business of our post shortly thereafter.

FROM THE COMMANDER:

Fellow Legionnaires, family, and friends We hope that this newsletter finds you and your families healthy and doing well. As mentioned, we hope the later publishing of our newsletter following each monthly meeting will keep you better informed. In 1919, The American Legion was founded on four pillars: Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation, National Security, Americanism, and Children & Youth. Our goal as a post is to base all our activities and focus on promoting these pillars in our community. We were honored to have the following Guests: TN Department District Commander Bill Green. Also in attendance were Past Post 281 Commanders Lew Hightower and Brenda Thompson. There is no greater honor you may bestow upon a fellow veteran and their family than participating in ceremonies celebrating the life of a veteran and their service to our country. The total military honors rendered, from the 2010 inception of Post 281 Honor Guard Team, now stands at 400. A lot of effort and commitment went into this. This is quite a feat for a small post such as ours. (See the included article)...

Update on MyLegion.Org online membership payment

Fellow Post 281 of Mt. Juliet Members,

The transition to the newer American Legion Website ( myleigion.org ) was supposed to occur at the beginning of our new 2021 calendar year.  We are still experiencing several issues with its “roll out” to where it is functioning correctly, but some of the basic tools and options are there.

YOU CAN PAY YOUR DUES FOR THE NEW 2021/2022 MEMBERSHIP YEAR ON THE MY LEGION WEB SITE.  If you will follow all their prompts and give them your credit card information , the membership payment works.  UNFORTUNATELY, if you choose that option, I do NOT get notified when you make your payment, as in the past.  Currently I must pull up a working information file (data base) and then I can see  an effective year with your file.  After your online payment, the record will reflect paid for 2022.  If you pay online, PLEASE send me a quick email and let me know by sending me a quick message at the "contact us" link on this site or by sending me an email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..  I will then mail your 2022 membership card to you and update my “hard copy” record too.

Steps are being taken to eliminate this from occurring in future communications.

We apologize for any confusion or inconvenience. No further action from you is required.

Thank you,

Fellow Legionnaires, family and friends:

We hope that this newsletter finds you and your families healthy and all doing well.  We hope most, if not all of you, will have received vaccinations for COVID and the Flu, as it is reported to be coming back strong.

COVID‐19 Vaccinations continue at both VA TVHS campuses in Murfreesboro and Nashville and local medical facilities within Middle Tennessee.

Over the Memorial Holiday weekend, we held our 9th Annual Honor America’s Flag Event, alongside the West Wilson Exchange Club at Jones Family Park in Mount Juliet.  We honored one of our members, John “Tennessee” Bev Spickard with a 50 Year Membership Certificate.  We also presented Certificates of Appreciation to Wilson County Mayor Randall Hutto, Mount Juliet Mayor James Maness, City Manager Kenny Martin, Police Chief James Hambrick, Fire Chief Jamie Luffman and Parks and Recreation Director Rocky Lee. All were recognized for continuously supporting our community veterans and youth, including Post 181 members, for years in multiple ways, events and endeavors, including tornadoes, flooding and pandemic...

May 2021 Newsletter

FROM THE COMMANDER:

Fellow Legionnaires, family and friends:

We sincerely hope that this newsletter finds you and your families all doing well. We hope most, if not all of you, will have received the COVID-19 Vaccinations. We have sent numerous notifications on where you may get the vaccinations. This includes both VA TVHS campuses in Murfreesboro and Nashville and local medical facilities within Middle Tennessee.

We continue with our Post’s “Buddy Check” of all of our members. This program ensures all members are doing well and is not in need of our assistance. I am still seeking to develop a Phone Call Team to assist in this effort. This may include members who currently can’t leave their residences. These “Buddy Checks” are required to be done twice a year. So, expect phone calls, emails and letters asking to see how you are doing and requesting that you re-validate your contact information. You will need your membership number and password previously used to revalidate your address, phone and email information and renew at https://mylegion.org/PersonifyEbusiness/Home

We have 230 (96%) renewals of a 239 TN Dept Goal. Some members’ data remains invalid, including phone numbers disconnected or changed, leaving us to wonder as to the member’s status. Please check your membership card to make sure it is current...
