"On this very nice Fall day, several veterans came to a luncheon sponsored by the Tyler Cates American Legion Post 281 of Mount Juliet, Tennessee (Commander Pat Unger). The veterans of many of our country's wars were honored but special honor went to the 10 World War II veterans who came out for the celebration.
Dignitaries included Mark Pody, Tennessee State Representative (District 46), Mayor Craighead of Lebanon, and Mayor Jennings of Watertown, as well as Commissioner Justice and Chief Hamrick from Mount Juliet. Mount Juliet proclaimed this Lester Knop Day in Mount Juliet in honor of the oldest veteran we served today, who turns 98 Sunday. Welcoming the guests were members of American Legion Post 15 in Lebanon, Post 281 in Mount Juliet and Chapter 1004 of the Vietnam Veterans of America. Entertaining these vets were the minstrels of the French Lick Pickers.
A bar-b-que luncheon was provided by Blue Moon of Lebanon. A birthday cake was given in honor of Lester Knop, 98, and Harold Davis, 89, of the Veteran's Home in Murfreesboro.
